Es una alteraci\u00f3n de la visi\u00f3n que consiste en la percepci\u00f3n de dos im\u00e1genes de un mismo objeto. Puede ser horizontal, vertical o diagonal, dependiendo del lugar en el que aparece la imagen duplicada (al lado, encima, debajo o en diagonal al objeto).<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

Existen diversos tipos de estrabismo que pueden provocarla:<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
La par\u00e1lisis de los nervios oculomotores<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Estrabismos que aparecen tras una cirug\u00eda ocular<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Traumatismos orbitarios<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Enfermedades de la tiroides<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Algunos estrabismos infantiles que perduran hasta la edad adulta<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Estrabismo del paciente miope<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Enfermedades neurol\u00f3gicas (como la miastenia gravis)<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Estrabismo sensorial (se produce cuando uno de los dos ojos tiene muy baja visi\u00f3n)<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

Sus s\u00edntomas son:<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
En ocasiones, los pacientes con visi\u00f3n doble ladean la cabeza para tratar compensarla o para ver mejor, pudiendo llegar a presentar a la larga cervicalgias cr\u00f3nicas.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n

Generalmente, la diplop\u00eda se produce a causa de un estrabismo o trastorno de la motilidad ocular. En estos casos, la visi\u00f3n doble es binocular (desaparece cuando tapamos uno de los ojos del paciente) y puede ser:<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Constante: el paciente ve doble todo el tiempo<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
Intermitente: se caracteriza por la visi\u00f3n doble de los objetos en momentos concretos<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
En ocasiones, la diplop\u00eda solo afecta a uno de los dos ojos (es monocular) y no desaparece tap\u00e1ndolo. Este tipo de visi\u00f3n doble suele estar relacionado con otras patolog\u00edas que afectan a las estructuras del ojo, que impiden que los ojos fusionen las im\u00e1genes dando lugar a una visi\u00f3n doble<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
